YourFry opened globally on 25th September, and ran until 11pm GMT on 1st January 2015. Throughout the YourFry project we collaborated with over 25 fantastic events around the globe to spark ideas with fellow creative and tech minds. V&A Digital Design Weekend, 21-22 September, Find out more

YourFry previewed at the V&A for their Digital Design Weekend, celebrating contemporary digital art and design, and to get involved in the collaborative makers event.

 

New Delhi, INDIA

antiSOCIAL, 28th November. 

TumharaFRY is an extension of the global project YourFry, a digital storytelling project that brings together creative individuals to re-imagine cultural powerhouse Stephen Fry’s latest works.TumharaFRY is looking for creative individuals who will respond to Fry’s challenge and show the power of the Indian deconstruction.  The project is initiated by Stephen Fry in collaboration with Penguin Random House and is presented in India by UnBox Festival together with KHUBLEI and antiSOCIAL. Digital Storytelling Lab, Columbia University, 15 November 2014 Find out more

Penguin Books, the Digital Storytelling Lab @Columbia and The Narrative Medicine Program at Columbia University were thrilled to announce this exploration into storytelling as a tool for mental health. 

This day long lab harnessed collaborative design methodologies (developed by FreedomLab / Learn Do Share) that mix storytelling, game mechanics, design thinking and technology.

Amman, JORDAN

Jordan Gaming Summit, 22-23 November. Find out more.

Jordan Gaming Summit, the largest gathering of video game developers in the Middle East, returned for its 4th time after the great success in 2013 with more than 400 attendees and industry leaders like Sony, Unity, Epic Games, Infinity Ward and 343 Industries. YourFry was integrated in a workshop as games developers considered the potential impact of storytelling as we know it and the importance of narrative arcs within gaming. www.GamingLab.jo

A full-day participatory event in collaboration with Penguin Books on reinterpreting the works of Stephen Fry through the lens of Lebanese culture. All creatives (designers, artists, writers, media specialists, chefs, sorcerers, hacktivists, engineers, librarians..etc) are welcome to join and be part of this global event. YourFry was profiled during the festival with Meetup group Data Visualisation Brighton. Their event The Art of Data, by Stefanie Posavec, provided a fascinating and interesting angle into data visualisation.

The Book Reborn, Cheltenham Festival, 11 October, Find out more

The Book Reborn looked to explore how 3D technology is transforming the physical book in unexpected ways. The University of Dundee’s Jon Rogers and team previewed their own interpretation on the YourFry project, and demonstrated live 3D printing!

Berlin, GERMANY

Music Tech Fest, 25-26 October. Find out more

Music Tech Fest is the "festival of music ideas". It unites the entire music technology ecosystem under one roof and provides a creative platform for collaboration and co-creation by hackers, musicians, innovative start-ups, both independent and major music labels, and technology companies. YourFry featured at the festival's hack camp which unites musicians, artists, makers, hackers and developers to make instruments, wearables and sonified objects for performance using components including Raspberri Pis, Arduinos, and all types of sensors.

The Bodleian Libraries hosted a YourFry hackathon in their new Weston Library, which brought together students, researchers from all disciplines, and members of the public with an interest in the intersection between technology and literature.

Their theme for the event was Many Faces, Many Selves: Exploring the self in the digital era

Sharjah, UAE

Sharjah International Book Fair, 4th November. Find out more.

Established in 1982 the Sharjah International Book Fair is a ten-day event held annually in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates and is presented under the continued guidance and patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the UAE Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah. Sharjah International Book Fair is one of the largest book fairs in the world, and will see the Arabic launch of YourFry setting the challenge to the whole of the MENA region.

Toronto Public Library and Ryerson University hack, 6 November

Ryerson University, Toronto Public Library (TPL), and Penguin Canada are working together in partnership on their YourFry event. Their theme for the day was focussed on the connection between books, technology, and the future of our libraries as public institutions and purveyors of storytelling.

Negev, ISRAEL

Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, 18 November 2014

Ethel Chait Stein, LLM, Esq. and her 'Entrepreneurship-Holistic View course' at the computer science faculty in Ben-Gurion University hosted a #YourFry project where they explored and sketched the sentiment and creative possibilities technologically around Storytelling and one of Penguin's most innovative authors, Stephen Fry. The Neri Bloomfield School of Design and Education, a unique Israeli institution, bridges many worlds. It nurtures individual creativity among its student body while instilling adeep sense of commitment to community. It offers excellent academic degree programs in several design fields that also prepare students for professional careers as highschool teachers. In this sense, it is unlike any other Israeli institution of higher learning in design – namely, the integration of the cutting-edge in professional skills with teacher-training program. Jerusalem, ISRAEL

The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, 18 November

The Hebrew University has set as its goals the training of public, scientific, educational and professional leadership; the preservation of and research into Jewish, cultural, spiritual and intellectual traditions; and the expansion of the boundaries of knowledge for the benefit of all humanity. The Hebrew university hosted the #YourFry project for an exclusive session with their brightest students from the Entrepreneurship degree programme. Shenkar - "Engineering. Design. Art” - has established itself as one of the leading colleges in Israel. Every year, Shenkar's graduates find themselves in the forefront of research and the industry, exhibit their works, participate in competitions and win prestigious awards.

Combining faculties of engineering, design and art is the basis of this institution’s unique multidisciplinary academics, allowing students and professors to combine cutting-edge technologies with contemporary design and artistic concepts.
